Excerpt from a studio session we did at Echo Canyon on Murray St., NYC. Originally issued as a one-sided 12" on clear vinyl with a silk-screened image of Harry Smith's unfinished Christmas ornament scratchboard illustration on the other side. Alan contacted Lionel Ziprin about reproducing the image--Harry made the ornament for Ink Weed Arts, Lionel's greeting card company in the 60a--and Lionel told him, "You can use it but I'm 80 years old, I'm not going to go rummaging around my basement looking for it." So with his blessing we scanned the image from Paola Igliori's book American Magus, an oral history of Harry, which is where we originally saw it to begin with.

Sonic Youth is one of those bands where you easily run out of superlatives to describe what they created. This could've easily come off as a cynical cash-grab by a band that had broken up 11 years prior to the release of this record, but that's not what this is.
